Australia needs a bold public broadcaster that presents quality news and original Australian content.
We need a renewed ABC that gives us tough, probing news & current affairs.
That serves the public interest through high quality, painstaking investigative journalism.
Every year the ABC’s reports trigger changes to government policy and major investigations. But in recent years, as funding cuts took their toll on jobs and services, there has been much less investigative reporting and fewer hard-hitting news stories.
With trust in the media at an all-time low and new threats posed by artificial intelligence, we need a strong public broadcaster more than ever.
We need a vital ABC that fosters quality and creativity.
An ABC that encourages new talent, that experiments, and takes risks. An ABC that challenges us and awakens our senses. That entertains our kids with great Australian stories and characters.
But when funding is stretched to the limit, the money isn’t there to produce new shows, let alone take risks.
We need an ABC that does the things other networks can’t or won’t do.
Our public broadcaster should be the place where all Australians can go confident that the news they receive will be free from misinformation and lies. It should be the home of quality Australian programs in drama, history, science, the arts, education and more.
But to do this, to be the very best, the ABC must be properly funded.
The ABC needs a plan for renewal and investment and it needs it now
Kim Williams, ABC Chair
At a time when our society is becoming increasingly polarised, we need a place where meaningful and respectful debate can take place and different ideas can be heard. We need an ABC for all Australians.
Join our fight for a fearless independent ABC. Our democracy depends on it.
